<p>My original plan was to get to the allotment over the weekend. Unfortunately the weather had other ideas, with snow falling from 19:30 on Thursday, through to about eleven Friday morning.</p>

<p>Still, if I couldn&#8217;t get to the allotment, at least I could take some photos of the snow in the garden &#8211; from indoors of course! Welcome to my <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://thepropagatorblog.wordpress.com/2017/09/18/six-on-saturday-a-participant-guide/" target="_blank">Six Snowy Scenes on Saturday</a>! </p>

<p>First up, the snow looks like it&#8217;s climbing up the leg of the chair (please excuse the bar across the centre of that photo as that&#8217;s a reflection of something indoors):</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="750" height="445" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/seat-leg.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-538" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/seat-leg.jpg 750w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/seat-leg-300x178.jpg 300w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/seat-leg-110x65.jpg 110w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/seat-leg-420x249.jpg 420w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/seat-leg-725x430.jpg 725w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>As usual, the Berberis looks great with a covering of snow. It still seems strange to see flowers on something that has a snowy &#8216;hat&#8217; though:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" width="750" height="445" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/berberis.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-535" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/berberis.jpg 750w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/berberis-300x178.jpg 300w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/berberis-110x65.jpg 110w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/berberis-420x249.jpg 420w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/berberis-725x430.jpg 725w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>The rabbit ornament looks surprisingly happy with his snowy blanket:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" width="750" height="445" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/bunny.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-536" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/bunny.jpg 750w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/bunny-300x178.jpg 300w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/bunny-110x65.jpg 110w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/bunny-420x249.jpg 420w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/bunny-725x430.jpg 725w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>I don&#8217;t think any birds will want to use the bird bath though &#8211; or if they did, there&#8217;s a lot of snow to get through first!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="445" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-birdbath.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-540" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-birdbath.jpg 750w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-birdbath-300x178.jpg 300w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-birdbath-110x65.jpg 110w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-birdbath-420x249.jpg 420w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-birdbath-725x430.jpg 725w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>With the way the snow was blowing, it stuck to the fence, making a very strange sight:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="445" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/fence.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-537" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/fence.jpg 750w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/fence-300x178.jpg 300w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/fence-110x65.jpg 110w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/fence-420x249.jpg 420w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/fence-725x430.jpg 725w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>And finally, I wanted to try and get a photo (or ten) of the snow that was stuck in the spider&#8217;s web on the window. Once it stopped waving about in the wind, I finally got the photo I was after:</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="445" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-window.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-541" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-window.jpg 750w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-window-300x178.jpg 300w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-window-110x65.jpg 110w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-window-420x249.jpg 420w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/snowy-window-725x430.jpg 725w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure>

<p></p>

<p>They&#8217;re forecasting warmer weather for Sunday night and all the coming week, so hopefully that means I&#8217;ll be able to check up on the allotment (and redo the fleece over the cabbages, as no doubt that will be in pieces after the wind &amp; snow).</p>

<span id="more-103"></span>

<p>1. A creative photo to start with &#8211; this was taken in my garden, but can you guess what it is? (solution at the end &#8211; no scrolling down until you&#8217;ve guessed) </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="386" height="650" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/guess-what.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-89" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/guess-what.jpg 386w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/guess-what-178x300.jpg 178w" sizes="(max-width: 386px) 85vw, 386px" /></figure>

<p>2. Those new herbs from <a rel="noopener" href="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/?p=75" target="_blank">Saturday&#8217;s Six</a> had a rude awakening on Sunday, with a layer of snow covering them. Surprisingly, they didn&#8217;t seem to mind too much. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="650" height="386" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-herbs.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-92" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-herbs.jpg 650w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-herbs-300x178.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure>

<p>3. Most of the snow had melted, but the Berberis was clinging on to a few patches.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="650" height="386" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-berberis.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-91" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-berberis.jpg 650w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-berberis-300x178.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure>

<p> </p>

<p>So did you guess what picture number one was? </p>

<p>Do you want to have another guess before scrolling down to see the answer?</p>

<p></p>

<p></p>

<p></p>

<p></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="386" height="650" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/guess-what-solution.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-90" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/guess-what-solution.jpg 386w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/guess-what-solution-178x300.jpg 178w" sizes="(max-width: 386px) 85vw, 386px" /></figure>

<p>It&#8217;s the icicles hanging down from the pipework leading to the water butt. I know the guttering drips like crazy, but I hadn&#8217;t expected this pipe to get icicles!</p>

<span id="more-59"></span>

<ol><li>I finally got the nails hammered into the new raised bed, filled it with multipurpose compost and grit sand, and rigged up a net across it to stop the deer from trying to eat everything. In trying to dig up the grass around the chives, I accidentally dug the chive plant up as well, so I went on and moved it into the new bed now.<br><figure><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-60" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/new-raised-bed-chives.jpg" alt="" width="386" height="650" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/new-raised-bed-chives.jpg 386w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/new-raised-bed-chives-178x300.jpg 178w" sizes="(max-width: 386px) 85vw, 386px" /></figure></li><li>The herb bed is a lot tidier than it was &#8211; I cut back most of the dead wood on the sage, mint and fennel, and cleared a lot of the fallen leaves away too. If I leave them all on the soil, that patch turns into a boggy mess if we get a lot of rain.<br><figure><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-58" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/herbs-old-leaves.jpg" alt="" width="650" height="386" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/herbs-old-leaves.jpg 650w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/herbs-old-leaves-300x178.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure></li><li>Ok, it doesn&#8217;t look great still, but this is the flower section after we cleared away a lot of the dead wood &amp; weeds. The pot in the centre has a mint growing in it &#8211; the idea of the bottomless pot is to try and contain the roots a little, so it won&#8217;t take over the entire plot.<figure><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-57" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/flowers-mint.jpg" alt="" width="650" height="386" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/flowers-mint.jpg 650w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/flowers-mint-300x178.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure></li><li>&nbsp;Bad weather stopped play on Thursday and Friday with snow falling most of the day both days. I don&#8217;t think the daffodils in the garden quite know what to make of it all.<br><figure><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-61" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-daffs.jpg" alt="" width="650" height="386" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-daffs.jpg 650w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-daffs-300x178.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure></li><li>Remember the spare strawberries from last week&#8217;s 6 on Saturday? This is how they looked as of Friday morning this week&#8230;<br><figure><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-63" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-strawberries.jpg" alt="" width="650" height="386" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-strawberries.jpg 650w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-strawberries-300x178.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure><br>I&#8217;m hoping the snow will act as an insulating blanket, and they won&#8217;t be getting too cold under there! But all the strawberries on the allotment will be similarly covered, as they weren&#8217;t fleeced.</li><li>But there was one thing in the garden that looked happy to be covered in a snow &#8216;duvet&#8217; &#8211; the little mole gnome sitting on the wall!<br><figure><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-62" src="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-mole.jpg" alt="" width="650" height="386" srcset="https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-mole.jpg 650w, https://allotmenteering.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/snowy-mole-300x178.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px" /></figure></li></ol>
